Behind the Designs: Bury Me In Jurassic Park #1

Welcome to the first in the Winged Beast’s “Behind the Design” series, where we share the story of the art we sell! We’re starting off with one of our newer offerings: Bury Me In Jurassic Park #1.

The whole concept of the phrase “Bury Me In Jurassic Park” and the art it inspired comes from a dream I had in 2016.

It’s a weird dream, but it’s just how my imagination works.

Jurassic Park is one of my all time favourite movies. I’ve loved dinosaurs my whole waking life, and seeing that movie for the first time back in 1993 was mind blowing. This is me when I think about dinosaurs and paleontology:

“Bury Me In Jurassic Park” captures that wistful childlike wonder, while nodding to the reality that Jurassic Park is not a very safe place. The odds of getting buried there are high.

An early example.

I started playing around with the idea. But, it really took off when I started mixing dinos into vintage photos. For some reason, this seemed to makes sense to me. The dinosaurs worked especially well oil industry photos. I’m not sure why, they just resonated.

Working on “Bury Me In Jurassic Park” pics became a sort of creative warm-up for other projects, and I made a slew of them. Eventually, I picked my favourites and printed them as postcards. But, I always figured they’d look good blown-up on t-shirts. When I started working on relaunching Winged Beast Outfitters, I knew I had to include some of these in the line-up.

I started with my favourite, which features a Parasaurolophus standing nearby a ruined barbwire fence and a strange spikey door. It’s a lot, and I find it has irresistible charm. I figured this was good one to start with, and I plan to release more from this series in the future. I look forward to sharing them with you!
